Instagram’s experimented with a new feature called “public Collections,” allowing users to share posts on their profiles. This feature aims to give visitors more insight into the user’s interests, such as celebrities, books, or movies, potentially influencing their decision to follow the user.

The public Collections feature extends a collaborative Collections feature launched in March. The earlier version enabled private discussions based on a post, where users in a chat could add posts to the collection, fostering more engagement through conversations centred around these posts.

Although the new public Collections feature is still under development and not yet ready for launch, it has been in the works since September. Instagram is fine-tuning the feature, which is expected to facilitate connections among users with similar interests. It’s also anticipated to be a useful tool for brands, providing them with a new way to showcase their products.

However, there are concerns about the potential for this feature to make profiles appear cluttered, a scenario Instagram has been trying to avoid. The final decision on whether and when to release this new profile Collections feature is still pending, with the platform continuously developing and accessing its impact.
